How To: Synchronizing Bookmarks Across Multiple Machines
Thanks to Karl for the following how-to.
If you are like me, you use a computer at home and perhaps at work or
school. And you probably accumulate web browser bookmarks on all the
machines that you use. The trouble is that you often wish you had a
bookmark that you know you saved on the other machine, but not on the
machine you are currently using.
There ARE several tools circulating around the net that help you solve
this, but they often require several manual steps to get the job done.
It is no big surprise that there is a Firefox extention to do this work
for you automatically.
It is called Bookmarks Synchronizer and can be found at:
https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=f
irefox&version=1.0&os=Windows&category=Bookmarks&numpg=10&id=14
You need to make sure that you have access to an FTP/WebDAV server that you can access from all the computers that you wish to synchronize. Many ISP’s give you some personal disk space storage that work nicely for this purpose. You might also want to look into some of the online disk backup websites.

Ask A Geek:
Jim asks: I would like to synch podcasts, including mp3s, to my PocketPC. I have iTunes and WMP installed. Can you help me?
You can use a program called ppcTunes, which is made for copying files from iTunes to your pocketPC. It features a “Sync on Connect” feature (allowing you to copy music files every time you hook up your device). ppcTunes will even map your music files to your storage card so as not to fill up the main memory of your device. ppcTunes is $9.99 and is
available at http://www.pocketmac.net/products/ppctunes/index.html

The geek’s view:
AllofMp3.com
If you love buying music over the internet but 99 center per song seems to be too much, you should check out Allofmp3.com. This is a music website that is run in russia where copyright law is very different. While this may not be 100% legal, the company has been investigated by russian authorities and no charges were brought up. The catalog of songs from this website is huge and bands not on any american site and major releases are up usually at the same time as on iTunes.
The advantages to using Allofmp3 is that all the tracks have no DRM (Digital Rights Management) and you have complete control over the type of file you get. You can select mp3, AAC, wav, lossless and much more. You also get to select your encoding rate and that means you choose the quality of the file. Once you select what you want, it is encoded on the fly and you can download it within 30 seconds to a minute.
Song pricing is by file size and not per track. All songs are 2 cents per megabyte and that
means an mp3 encoded at 192, runs only 4 to 6 cents while an entire album is around $1.
When you create your account you must fund it first. You can use your credit card or a paypal account, which is good if you don’t want to send your credit card number across the world. I’ve used both methods with no issues of fraud or wrongdoing.
Along with this great website is a program they offer for free called the Allofmp3 explorer which is their entire website built into a program and streamlines the process of buying music from them. Allofmp3.com is a great site to check out for great music and amazing
selection. Just be aware of the fact that it might not be 100% legal.
Check it out at www.allofmp3.com
