Ask A Geek:

A listener asks why Windows Media Player locks up when adding a 6-in-1 card reader to his PC.

Answer- When adding new hardware to a PC, sometime unforseen side-effect can occur. The card reader may be interfering with other hardware in the system. It’s a good idea to check the status of all your hardware in Device Manager. You should also make sure you have the latest drivers for the reader along with the latest version of the media player. Finally, if you find it’s stll causing problems, call the manufacturer as they would know the product best.

The geek’s view: Really Slick Screensavers.

If beizers or starfield is boring to you and you want to jazz up your screensavers, you should definitly check out Really Slick Screensavers.

These screensavers require OpenGL and a fast machine, but the graphics are worth it. Just download and extract the files to C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\ on Windows XP, then choose your screensaver. The different patterns are really amazing and will have you waiting for your screen to go dark so the show can begin.

As always, this program is free. Go ahead and check it out at http://www.reallyslick.com
