How To: Quickly enhance your pictures in Photoshop
When editing pictures, there are many routes to go but the best program to use is Adobe Photoshop. While it is expensive, many people have it on their computers but due to its complexity, is never used. While you don’t need to be a photoshop expert to get those good prints, a few simple tricks can greatly enhance those memories.
1. Use the levels. Levels in Photoshop adjust white and black levels in your picture. By moving the sliders left and right, you reduce what parts of the spectrum are cut off. By changing the balace (middle slider) you can make some major progress in this one step.
2. Use layers. By layering bits and pieces of an image, you can create an image that looks fantastic with no jagged edges from editing. The edges are covered by layers above it, so while not perfect, they look this way in the final product. Layers can also have their own enhancements, called adjustment layers that change the image, and much more. Playing with this feature can be a lot of fun.
3. Rubber stamp. Need to remove someone from a picture? Need to clone something? Use the rubber stamp. This tool is really easy and works great. When it’s selected you first tell it where it’s source is, so it knows where to grab from. Then you begin to paint with it. The tool will clone whatever it’s source is, onto the new area. When used with layers, the rubber stamp can work great with eliminating items in a picture that are unwanted.
The abilities of Photoshop are immense and cannot be learned easily. By getting into it step-by-step, one can get a basic understanding of how it works. Even knowing just a few tools, you can work wonders with this program.
