Google has introduced a spreadsheet program, continuing the the search leader’s expansion into territory long dominated by Microsoft. Although it’s still considered a work in progress, Google’s online spreadsheet will offer consumers and businesses a free alternative to Microsoft’s Excel. To avoid swamping the company’s computers, Google’s spreadsheet initially will be distributed to a limited audience. Google also wants more time to smooth out any possible kinks and develop more features. Google plans to begin accepting sign-ups for the spreadsheet at 9 a.m. EDT Tuesday through the “labs” section of its Web site.

Hack: Overclock your smartphone applications.
If you have a smartphone running Windows Mobile, there are times you can use more speed out of your phone to get it working better. One major application that needs speed is Skype. My phone, the T-Mobile MDA, needs a boost whenever I run this application. I could do this manually each time I run it or I can have the application overclock itself. Here’s what you do:
First, to my knowledge this will only work on Windows Mobile 5. You will need the phone, a registry editor such as Total Commander or PHM RegEdit, and a program called OMAPClock.
1. Put a copy of OMAPClock into a folder where the application you want to overclock is located.
2. Open your registry editor and get to the shortcut for the program, which is located in the Windows/Programs folder.
3. Open the properties of the shortcut you want to edit. You’ll see it’s launch path.
4. Edit the launch path.
An example for Skype would be: “\program files\skype for pocket pc\Omapclock” -clock 276 -launch “program files\skype for pocket pc\skype” -restore
You want to edit the string above with the correct path. Also the 276 is the speed you are bumping the CPU upto. The general rule of thumb is to start with a low number and gradually raise it until the program works or the phone crashes and you need to lower it to below that limit. The restore section puts the clock back to the default speed once the application is closed. This is good so you don’t run down the battery faster all the time.
5. Save the shortcut edit. You’re now done. You’ll see that the shortcut’s icon is now a general Windows icon. If you run the program and then open OMAPClock on its own, you’ll see the current clock speed and you’ll know if the new shortcut works. This launch string will work for any application on your phone.
