Geek This Week:
Aaron:
The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. Still netbook shopping.
Gozer:
Was sick all weekend. COD world at war…actually played the story mode! Really awesome. Did get up to level 28 on nazi zombie mode. Used the pack a punch to power up the ray gun and the magnum. Just got to the point where my wife was yelling, ” Are you gonna come up to spend time with me?” I left at 28 and everyone else wound up dying.
( Mahhk will be very happy) Went into blockbuster not expecting any good games for rent. Got Batman Arkum Asylum. The game is beautiful and has one of the best intros ever. I felt like I was on a ride at universal studios. The joker is being taken away in one of these hannibal lectur contraptions. Makin his comments all the while. You meet killer croc his is transported via elevator and he wants to eat your bones. Scary dude. I was thinkin wow i hope that electric collar he’s got on works. The environments are gorgeous and the fighting is alot of fun. There’s detective mode, ex) batman follows a crooked guard by following the alcohol that he just consumed.
Ended my netflix. I just figured i go to blockbuster all the time for my games i mine as well get the blockbuster online so i can return mailed movies to the store and pick up new ones for free. ( i think 5 free in store exchanges) I never really used the streaming netflix so what’s the difference between that and blockbuster? at least now i can go to the store and get free movies along with my mailed ones.

Tech and Gaming News:
Scribblenauts Word Count Higher Than Reported
Over the weekend, a hacker seemed to prove that there are exactly 22,802 words in Scribblenauts. Not true, the game’s creative director told Fast Company.
An online article quotes Jeremiah Slaczka, creative director at game development studio 5th Cell, told the outlet that the the weekend word count report missed some words:
“That was leaked by a hacker who does not know anything. It’s more than that,” Slaczka said. Scribblenauts, which will be out tomorrow on the Nintendo DS, offers players a couple of hundred 2D platforming and puzzle challenges, all of which can be solved using objects, people and creatures that the player writes into the game. The game was programmed to recognize and render as many kid-safe, non-trademarked names as possible. Most proper names were excluded as well. No Batman and no naughty words. But it does have everything from dog to gun to god.

Eidos Details First Batman DLC Pack
“Insane Night” to include a new Combat and Predator challenge map.
Eidos has given official details for the first of two planned free downloadable content packs for Batman: Arkham Asylum. We already knew the one scheduled for this Thursday is titled “Insane Night,” but now the reason why is becoming clear. Kotaku reports that it consists of two new maps. “Totally Insane” combat challenge places Batman in the Records Room against scores of the lunatic enemies. The “Nocturnal Predator” map is (simply enough) a predator challenge that seems to take place on the Arkham grounds. The other pack, “Prey in the Darkness,” is also likely to consist of two maps and should be coming September 24, if information from Sony is to be believed. With over 2 million Batman owners so far, offering this content for free is certainly more charitable than most game companies would be with a similar hit on their hands.

EVGA’s dual-LCD InterView display starts shipping
EVGA’s unusual dual-LCD InterView display certainly isn’t for everybody, but if you’ve got a desk-mate that you’re constantly sharing a monitor with you’ll no doubt be pleased to know that it’s now finally available to order. Now selling for as low as $624.99 (or $640 list price), the monitor packs dual 17-inch LCDs that can either be used in a screen-spanning mode for an extra-wide 34-inch display, or be rotated and automatically reoriented for folks sitting across form each other. Unfortunately, each display packs a somewhat lackluster 1,440 x 990 resolution, and you’ll of course have to make sure you have dual VGA or DVI inputs if you want to run it from a single computer. That’ll no doubt be a small trade-off to some folks, however, especially considering there aren’t exactly a ton of competitors to the InterView at the moment.

The Geek’s View: GPush for iPhone
GPush is the missing link between GMail and the iPhone. For the first time, receive instant Gmail message notifications on the iPhone. For best results, place the GPush app icon above your mail icon – this will allow you to quickly open your mail app if new messages come in through GPush.
BlackBerry became very popular, in part because it offers remote users “instant” e-mail; new e-mails appear on the device as soon as they arrive, without the need for any user intervention, in what is referred to as “push email”. For the first time, using GPush, iPhone users will be able to receive their GMail new message notification instantly and no longer have to wait up to an hour to be notified of new email. Push email has the added value of reducing battery consumption considerably. GPush even lets the iPhone user choose how to be notified of new email. Your options include having the phone vibrate, ring, display the email message on the standby screen just like an SMS, or simply have the GPush icon show how many new messages are unread.
features:
Instantly receive Gmail new message notifications on the iPhone
Set it and Forget it: All you have to do is download the app and decide how you want to be notified of new email. You never have to open the app again after that.
Improved battery life: GPush uses less battery since it relies on push notifications rather than data fetching (“pulling”)
Ability to see emails on the standby screen just like text messages
SSL Security Certificate used to ensure password security for GPush users
