Geek This Week:
Aaron:
Didn’t Black Friday shop but went shopping on Saturday to get a whole bunch of stuff. Picked up Super Mario Bros. for the Wii and I’ll be sure to give that a try later on this week. Found a fantastic iPhone app called ShopSavy that scans barcodes. It will then check all prices online along with local stores using the iPhone’s location, which is awesome. It shows reviews and lets you save items to check later. A fantastic app and it’s free! It’s a total must-have for the holiday shopper.
Gozer:
Had a great thanksgiving, played modern warfare 2 local multiplayer free for all death match with my wife’s family. Really alot more fun playing with people next to you than over live. My father in law and uncle in law stayed up all night to go to wal mart to get $80 cameras and 50 AA for $9. They stayed up all night researching!!!
Playin a ton of New Super Mario Bros. Havin alot of fun playin it with my wife. We are on world 8 and these worlds get increasingly harder. Also playing it single player, alot easier to get through but it is fun to have the co-op experience. The cool thing about co-op is you pretty much have infinite lives and continues. Everytime someone dies they can come back when the level is over +5 lives. If you both die on the same level with no lives left then the game is over and you will revert back to your last game save.
Tried out the new Scene It. Not really that impressed. NO avatar support like the last game and NO ONLINE PLAY!! very disappointing. They have this thing where you select stereotypical hollywood characters as your avatars, to choose these avatars then start the game is a pain in the ass. It almost seems more like a game show then a movie trivia game. There is this host that follows you around and tells you what is going on. Also, i am still not sure about this, you earn stars at the end of each round and you can use these stars to get a points multiplier for the next round. If you miss getting this multiplier, it will go to another player. Lots of current movies than classic movies in this version. I believe warner brothers picked up this new version.

Nook ship date slips to January 11th, supply chain managers weep
Hardware construction is a funny thing. Sometimes, regardless of the money you throw at something, you just can’t get products to come together any quicker. Evidently that’s the case with Barnes & Noble’s Nook, which has seen its estimated ship date slip from today to sometime after the holidays, and now to January 11th. There’s still a sliver of hope that you’ll be able to snag one from a high-traffic retail location on December 7th, but unless you’re planning on abandoning ship and helping the Kindle have its new best month ever, the realistic choices are pretty clear: a) pay Tickle Me Elmo-like prices on eBay or b) drop an IOU in a nicely wrapped box, preferably with a cute puppy. We suggest the latter.

Cyber Monday Sales Surge Again
BY TERRENCE O’BRIEN — NOV 30TH 2009 AT 5:20PM
Since its official beginning in 2005, Cyber Monday (the Monday following Thanksgiving) has been one of the biggest online shopping days of the year. The Web counterpart to the decidedly brick-and-mortar Black Friday has grown in popularity every year, and has even lured more traditional retailers, such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart, to take part in that second day of steep discounting.
This year, sales got off to a quick start with 270 retail Web sites reporting a total of 4 million visitors per minute by 11:15 a.m., according to Internet tracking firm Akamai. That’s an increase of 43-percent from the same time last year. Final numbers won’t hit the news for a few days, but traffic generally spikes in post-work hours. According to the National Retail Federation (NRF) survey, about 96.5 million Americans plan to take part in the online deals.

California Gamer Subpoenas Bill Gates In RROD Suit
Erik Estavillo seeking information on how many Xbox 360s have broken down and other data.
Erik Estavillo has sued Sony for allegedly violating his First Amendment rights and Blizzard for “deceitful business practices.” Now he’s targeting Microsoft over the “red ring of death” affecting his Xbox 360, and has subpoenaed none other than Bill Gates himself over the issue.
According to the subpoena obtained by GamePolitics, Gates is to bring “documents pertaining to the true and relative number of actual Xbox 360 units that have been fixed by Microsoft over the past 3 years.” He’s also seeking statistical data on how many Xbox 360’s have broken down over the years and the actual number of people banned from Xbox Live for piracy between 11/28/2008 and 11/28/2009.
Gates isn’t the first high-profile person to be summoned by Estavillo. In the Blizzard case, he subpoenaed actress Winona Ryder and Depeche Mode member Martin Lee Gore to testify on his behalf on the subject of alienation.
The latest subpoena was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Having now filed suit against Nintendo of America, Sony, Microsoft and Blizzard, Estavillo said he doesn’t plan to sue anymore companies.
At the moment, he’s appealing the verdict of the Sony suit, which was dismissed after the judge determined that there was no plausible First Amendment claim for relief. Estavillo is seeking $180,000 for what he says were a violation of his First Amendment rights after being banned from the PlayStation Network.

The Geek’s View: Star Trek on Blu Ray
Extras: a second disc packed with extras. only watched the gag reel. Kirk and Spock did this whole scene, right as spock was supposed to take the red matter to destroy the rahmulans, in different accents. The whole cast just looked like they were having fun making this movie.
